The postman arrived this morning bearing a happy smile

He said, good morning love – haven’t seen you for a while

Merry Christmas to you and your family he bid

Expecting a tip of at least five quid

Nothing for you this year I hasten to say

We’re all a bit skint and it isn’t pay-day

Upon opening the card I was surprised to see

The sender was an old flame

Sadly, I felt no glee

Why, oh why, wasn’t it from the love of my life

Alas, I fear he has taken a wife

Oh well, I wish them both a Christmas cheer

Maybe I’ll bump into them in the New Year…
